Thibaud Hénique

Like humans, every material has its own unique voice. Sadly, they’re rarely allowed to express their distinctive sound qualities. Because speakers are engineered and tuned to sound as neutral as possible, the material of the encasing is silenced. By designing for the material, not against it, Thibaud Henique rejects this dogma of neutrality. The result is a speaker that behaves like an instrument. It uses vibrating technology that can be placed on any object. The object then starts to vibrate in tandem, propagating the soundwave. A sculpture of cedar and yellow poplar wood demonstrates how the material's aesthetic properties can harmonize with its sound characteristics. It shows us how every material and its shape can uniquely impact the sound coming from the speaker.
