Examination Board

The DAE Examination Board for the Bachelor and Master programmes is selected by the Executive Board. The Executive Board appoints the members of the Examination Board from the members of the DAE staff. At least one member is a tutor at DAE, and at least one member is not affiliated with DAE. The Examination Board has an official secretary who is not a member. Members are appointed for three years and can be reappointed after that for one more term of three years.

The Examination Board can establish further rules with regard to the proper conduct of affairs during the exams and with regard to the measures to be taken during the exams. In the event of fraud by a student, that student may be deprived of the right to take one or more exams at DAE for a period to be determined by the Examination Board.

The Examination Board is responsible for:

  • establishing guidelines and rules for assessing and determining the results of interim and final examinations
  • ensuring the organisation and smooth running of the examinations
  • granting exemption from taking one or more examinations
  • determining the results of examinations
  • issuing certificates
  • handling petitions on subjects that concern the Examination Board
  • reaching an amicable settlement in response to requests to that effect from the Examination Appeals Board
  • appointing examiners and external auditors.

The Examination Board is authorised to deviate from the education and examination regulations (OER) in a number of cases in which the OER explicitly provides for this:

  • if, as a result of special circumstances, the application of these regulations would lead to serious unfairness or to negligence
  • if the interests of a student or group of students threaten to be harmed as a result of errors made by the institution
  • if the Examination Board decides to grant an individual student’s request.

If, due to unforeseen circumstances, a student misses the regular examination or the opportunity to participate in the re-do, he or she must submit a request for an extra resit. The student must submit this request to the Examination Board in good time. The request must be accompanied by supporting documents demonstrating the unforeseen circumstance. The Examination Board makes a decision, taking into account the advice on the form.
