Community

At Design Academy Eindhoven, students, tutors, heads and staff learn with and from each other. As well as producing some of the world’s leading designers, over the years the school has invited an enviable list of leading creative minds and industry figures from around the world to teach and collaborate with students. Many have become long-term supporters and allies of the school, creating the foundation for a network that has helped cement DAE’s reputation worldwide.

Today, our dedicated and knowledgable community of designer-teachers, alumni, industry and research experts and advisors is complemented by the Friends of DAE, who support the school in many different ways. Together, they ensure that the school continues to provide the best help, expertise and knowledge to its students and give both current students and graduates access to a unique and unparalleled professional network.

Through the DAE community, students can find relevant and exciting internships and work placements, access specialised workplaces and makers for help and advice with their projects, and collaborate with industry on research and real-world projects, giving them opportunities to apply and practice their design skills beyond the walls of the institution.

This extensive network also enables DAE to be agile and respond to major changes and emerging issues within the design industry and the wider world faster than the average institution.

The DAE community is an invaluable part of the school. To thank all of the individuals involved for their continuing support, the Academy has developed an annual relationship program. This includes, among other things, special privileges for community members, design lectures, guided tours and a programme of morning meetings.

Feel free to contact us if you would like to be part of our network and read what DAE and its community can offer you in return.

Initiated and run by our Community Organiser (CO), Pete Fung, with support from the Executive Board, the new micro-grant scheme supports student-led activities and events that work to connect people, bring about discourse, foster collaboration, experimentation and community building through extra-curricular initiatives within our Academy.

Elevator Radio is a radio network run by students from Design Academy Eindhoven. Established as an umbrella network to bring together existing and new radio initiatives, Elevator Radio acts as an experimental platform for voices from the student community. A platform for students to collaborate and play with ideas in the medium of live broadcasting and audio.

The third iteration of Who’s Who is a mini series: Four interviews with those who are behind the programme Fundamentals, Reflections, Extracurricular and the DAE Lecture Series. Bachelors student and photographer Anwyn Howarth caught up with the organiser, coordinators, programme manager and committee members to find out what goes into programming spaces for learning, reflecting, sharing, gathering, collaborating, initiating and experimentations.

BZAR IS…
a student-run Material Bank at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Here, students can trade an assortment of materials, tools and exhibition furnitures they no longer need for the left-over materials of other students. The initiative set out to reimagine the flow of material and help reduce the unnecessary waste produced each year at the Academy.

Design Academy Eindhoven's alumni include some of the world's most innovative and respected designers, business leaders, researchers and artists. The school has maintained close connections with many of its alumni, who are invaluable in keeping the school connected to the world of design and industry. They regularly connect with current students to share their professional insights and how their education shaped their career, through social media, work placements and feedback sessions, as well as interviews and surveys that help shape DAE's approach.
