## “Within the sneaker industry, materials and production methods should be re-examined to discover more innovative and sustainable models.”

Most sneakers we buy are manufactured using a variety of materials, relying on lengthy supply chains and resulting in hard-to-recycle shoes. With ‘HIDE’, Michel Gallus questions production methods and material value in the sneaker industry by using just one single material with a long heritage: leather. The cow skins or hides necessary for this can be locally obtained and processed. The leather can be tanned and finished in a multitude of ways, to give it the qualities needed for all the different parts of a sneaker. Upper, outsole, midsole, lining and tongue are all held together with the laces and a minimum of stitching, making the design partly modular to allow for easy repair.
