With ever-rising sea levels, we will have to find a way to live with water rather than fight it. Since water will become an inevitable presence in daily life, why not start to explore it right now? Maya Colombier takes her work underwater for a completely new perspective on design. In a submerged workspace she recreates classic design icons like a wooden chair or a vase. What does their construction require when they float instead of stand? And what is asked of their designer? As some tools and materials automatically rise to the surface, while others sink to the bottom, the designer needs to move around continually, discovering insights that may lead to a new methodology on dry ground too.
