BLOKI

Bartosz Seifert

## “In my opinion the biggest value of social housing is the intermingling of different social groups. That’s why we should preserve it by giving individuals a voice.”

Under communist rule, cities in Poland have been filled with standardized, prefab building blocks to quickly and efficiently provide citizens with homes. In the post-Soviet era, cities have been trying to revive these social housing projects with colourful paint on the grey facades. In his project ‘BLOKI’, Bartosz Seifert questions the future of these prefabricated panel houses by offering inhabitants the possibility to apply self-chosen patterns and prefabricated extensions to their apartments. Thus, the buildings become canvases for displaying the individual preferences of inhabitants. The online BLOKI platform functions as a tool for democratising social architecture and facilitating communication among tenant cooperatives and local administrations.
