Biogas
With the project 'Biogas', Bart Keiren explores a direct dialogue between human and nature, addressing energy as an issue. Instead of trying to resolve structural political dependencies on gas, the project addresses the everyday consumption of this precious substance. The project proposes a closed system, which relies on one's responsibility to care for a bacteria culture. The installation consumes about a cup-full of food waste to provide enough gas to make a cup of tea a day. This direct exchange creates a strong bond between human and bacteria. The symbolic action of maintaining the installation as a single living organism becomes a gesture for a mindset of care for our natural environment as a whole.
