North Sea Orchestra
Annelie Dalglish
A collection of seven ceramic flutes represent the seven North Sea maritime zones, and how their conflicting interests need to come together like an orchestra.
The North Sea is broken. Divided into seven maritime zones, it is subjected to sometimes conflicting regulations imposed by seven countries. Environmental protection can be the priority in one zone, while the neighbouring zone suffers from overfishing. However, similar to an orchestra, the seven zones of the North Sea need to be in tune with each other to function well. Annelie Dalglish created an orchestra consisting of seven ceramic flutes. The forms of the ceramic flutes are inspired by the shapes of the maritime zones. Every flute has a different tone, forming an element of the ‘North Sea Orchestra’. Intended as educational tools, they provoke questions such as: Who owns the North Sea and how should it be protected?
