2022, This Is Not the Horizon

“One of the simplest paths to deep change is for the less powerful to speak as much as they listen, and for the more powerful to listen as much as they speak.” Anne-Iris Espinat Dief took activist Gloria Steinem’s statement as inspiration to balance the space given to the elite by the media. In her study of democracy, she collected audio-visual portraits of people along a 900-kilometre journey from Paris to the Mediterranean Sea. She then created an installation where people can practice speaking up and listening as a way of liberating them from apathy and fear.
