The Theatre of Politics

Anna Lyn Wolf

Politics has always used theatrical means to reach its audience. Since the birth of democracy in ancient Greece, these two disciplines – politics and theatre – have been closely linked in their location, their topics and the use of scripted language.

Anna Lyn Wolf introduces an exaggerated depiction of today’s political reality to create an awareness of the workings of the theatre of politics. 3D avatars of leading political personalities are used to analyse and reinterpret recent political statements on migration in German politics, mirroring their performances on social media. Findings are framed in a theatrical setting, in an attempt to grasp the complexity of political performance.
