The Great Depression!
Angela Tziafeta
Medical professionals define depression as a mood disorder caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain; something the pharmaceutical industry can ‘fix’. However, research has shown that seven out of the nine factors of depression are not biological or chemical, but environmental. Angela Tziafeta aims to challenge the audience’s perception of what depression is and how we treat it by presenting another narrative on the current epidemic of despair - not by highlighting malfunctions in the brain of an individual, but by looking at depression as a symptom of how the modern collective psyche responds to its environment. Our understanding of depression needs a queer makeover.
