DAE Alumni at Milan Design Week

Milan Design Week is finally here, and whilst DAE won’t be present as an institution this year, there are still a wide range of different DAE alumni taking part in the event this year. If you’re visiting Milan this week, we’ve created a handy interactive map that you can use to explore alumni events and exhibitions. In addition, we’ve compiled a list of a few events that we recommend visiting. If you’re an alumni participating in Milan Design Week and you don’t see your name on the map, please note that you can still add a pin!

BASE Milano: The Body is a Movement | Thursday 18 April 17:00 – 18:30

On Thursday 18 April, BASE MIlano presents a programme featuring contributions from a number of DAE Alumni. ‘The Body is a Movement’ is an afternoon of conversation about the relationship with our body.

Since we have been living in capitalist structures, our bodies have become vehicles for profit. Optimise for productivity and efficiency. These beautiful, amazing, wonderful bodies of ours, capable of feeling so much joy and excitement — how can we find them again?

BASE Milano: We Will Design Exhibition | Tuesday 16 – Sunday 21 April

DAE Alumni are also present at Salone de Mobile 2024, with this group exhibition at BASE Milano, sponsored by Stimuleringsfonds. The exhibiton programme provides space for projects that focus on topics such as spatial justice, unity and solidarity. With the Open Call BASE at Salone del Mobile 2024, the Stimulerings is actively offering a stepping stone to individual makers who have not presented work internationally before.

Featuring work by DAE alumni Anas Chao, Augustina Lavickaite, Sonia Górecka, Marco Loi, Holly Zambonini, Susanna Tomassini, Eros Risiglione and Laura Stachon!

Milestones | Tuesday 16 – Sunday 21 April

The collective exhibition Milestones takes place at Via 23 Lonzano, initiated and self-funded by a group of 2023 DAE graduates.

Featuring work by DAE Alumni Alexandre Delasalle, Dario Erkelens, Paul Gödecken, Nico Neves, Anna Oudhof, Ambre Pourcelot, Pierre Salaün, Samuel Szraga and Willem Zwiers.

Alcova 2024 | Monday 15 April – Sunday 21 April

Alcova 2024 will open to the public April 15-21, from 11am to 7pm (with last entry at 6pm) in two extraordinary new locations: Villa Borsani and Villa Bagatti Valsecchi. Entrance to Alcova is free until capacity is reached, and pre-registration is not required.

Alcova is a platform for designers, companies, institutions and researchers investigating the future of living and making. Each year during the world’s largest design event, Milan Design Week, Alcova brings together the people defining design culture today through groundbreaking work on living environments, products, systems, materials and technological innovation. Founded in 2018 by Valentina Ciuffi (Studio Vedèt) and DAE Creative Director Joseph Grima (Space Caviar), Alcova has become one of the most widely followed projects in the Fuorisalone, regularly attracting over 90.000 visitors.

The seventh edition of Alcova will be set in two of the most extraordinary villas of the Milan metropolitan area: Villa Borsani and Villa Bagatti Valsecchi.

Dopo?: Runaways exhibition | Monday 15 April – Sunday 21 April

For Milan Design Week DOPO? space presents the project “Runaways”: an exhibition-event that will stage an experiment of temporary co-housing. Alumni and current DAE students will participate in the exhibition. The collective WHYWHYNOT will help transform the space into a living environment by building an outdoor shower, made from discarded or abandoned materials. In addition, on Wednesday April 17, at 15:00: Elevator Radio will host a two-hour streaming session from DOPO, sharing music and interviews. DAE Alumni participating in the exhibions are Flora Manon, Jonas Hejduk, Diego Faivre, Hugo Béhérégaray, Teun Zwets, Audrey Large, Ned Kaar and WHYWHYNOT collective.
