Ministry of Dumpling Affairs
Anas Chao
Dumpling making and sharing is used as a way to make and negotiate personal identity, belonging and home when these are challenged by circumstances.
Welcome to the Ministry of Dumpling Affairs. The Ministry was founded by Anas Chao, based on his autoethnographic research on identity and belonging. Seeing the diverse and interconnected nature of dumplings worldwide as a representation of human existence, the Ministry recognises that each dumpling reflects the unique circumstances that an individual exists in. Working closely with other ministries, the Ministry realizes the elements of home by understanding our collective experience and existence. The project anticipates the formation of new homes through their public engagements, where their founder makes and shares dumplings with others. But more importantly, the Ministry of Dumpling Affairs looks forward to identifying and acknowledging the ongoing negotiations and compromises that constitute the foundation of our homes.
