Relocation of DAE

Since two years DAE is searching for future housing. The lease of Witte Dame expires in 2027. Since 2022 several locations have been looked at. In July 2023 DAE and the municipality announced that Microlab on Strijp-S in Eindhoven was the preferred location. An agreement was signed that both parties would make an effort to solve the problems still open, namely the budget and the needed student housing.
Unfortunately these problems are not solved, despite many conversations and negotiations with Eindhoven. Microlab is not a viable option and no other viable locations in Eindhoven are currently known to us. There is however an offer of Roermond to be seriously considered, it meets most requirements. The Executive Board and the Advisory Board have a firm intention to make a decision by the summer. At this moment no decision has yet been made.
Requirements
A schedule of requirements was drawn up for the choice of new accommodation, in which DAE indicated, among other things, that 10,000 m2 of floor space is needed to properly carry out all our educational programmes. It is essential that DAE not only moves to an adequate, affordable building, but that the highly qualified education for the students is also guaranteed in the future. Education must take place in suitable spaces, with state-of-the-art resources by expert teaching staff.
Student housing
The presence of sufficient student accommodation is also an important issue. Students need to be able to live near the academy. For the foreign students, finding accommodation in Eindhoven is very important.
Not viable
Possible scenarios for new premises are currently under consideration by the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board, including the Microlab building in the Strijp-S district in Eindhoven. Despite a generous pledge from the city of Eindhoven for a contribution of €4 million, a significant funding shortfall remains for this location. Regrettably, as of today, no viable option has been found in Eindhoven. Constructive conversations with the municipality, aimed at finding a positive solution, continue.

Roermond
A viable option in Roermond is also on the table and shall be seriously considered should no viable option be found in Eindhoven. More information will be shared if there are further developments in this direction. Our preference is and always will be our home of 76 years, Eindhoven.
