THINKING PIT
Anabelle Grundmann
A workshop encourages consumers to think of a form of tourism that benefits culture, society, the environment and the economy.
Today’s mass-tourism causes harm in many ways. It puts enormous pressure on fragile ecosystems, exhausts resources, and produces waste and pollution. Additionally, it causes socio-cultural fractures between locals and tourists. This demands a shift towards positive impact tourism (PIT), benefitting culture, society, environment and economy equally, and putting the needs of tourists, locals and the environment in balance. To start the conversation, Anabelle Grundmann developed ‘THINKING PIT’, a workshop aimed at turning passive consumers into active thinkers by challenging them to imagine their own desirable form of PIT. All outcomes are collected on a website to inspire a broader audience. The workshop can also serve the tourism industry as a playful method for data collection.
