Kanaalzone announced as future DAE location

Today we’re thrilled to announce that the new location of Design Academy Eindhoven will be in the Kanaalzone. After it was announced last month that the we would remain housed in Eindhoven, it has now been decided by the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board that the Kanaalzone will be the new home. A letter of intent has also been signed between DAE, the municipality of Eindhoven and real estate company GEVA Vastgoed, owner of the site in question. It was also agreed that 250 student houses will be built in the plan area the Caai, De Kanaalzone or in the Koelhuis District. This is part of DAE’s Plan of Requirements.

“We are very happy with the overall offer that is now there. The Canal Zone is a development location with a lot of potential, offering space for innovation, creativity and inspiration. This location is going to be a great breeding ground for future designers. We can construct a tailor-made building with the required surface area within the possibilities of our budget. We are also pleased that the possibility of creating student accommodation for our national and international first-year students in the immediate vicinity is being investigated,” says Raf De Keninck, DAE Board of Governors.

Healthy ecosystem

Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem also welcomes the move. “We have made a concerted effort recently to create a suitable location and conditions for DAE and its students. That has now been found in the Canal Zone. This creates a new future for the academy, firmly embedded in Eindhoven.”

“The design ecosystem in Eindhoven and the region is an important driver of our existence. We want to see the ecosystem strengthened further, and with the municipality’s commitment to put its shoulder to the wheel here, we are very pleased. We need to inspire each other, support each other and further anchor our cooperation. A healthy ecosystem can only take shape by working together with the municipality and all stakeholders. We look forward to that fruitful cooperation,” said Joseph Grima, DAE Board of Governors.

We look forward to sharing more details in the coming months.
