Innovations in cycling with Royal Dutch Gazelle
Students from Studio Public Private explored the future of cycling infrastructure and travel with designers from cycling brand Royal Dutch Gazelle
Led by supervising teachers Ester van de Wiel and Joost Adriaanse, members of the BA studio engaged with a wide variety of questions and ideas around cycling and the concept of the "bikeable city".
"Students have had the opportunity to develop their ideas into innovative concepts and deepen their knowledge," said Stijn Roodnat, leader of Studio Public Private.
Outcomes included a bike dating app, an exploration into time travel through the history of cycling, and a circular economy concept for bicycles.
Netherlands-based Royal Dutch Gazelle has been manufacturing in Dieren, Gelderland, for over 130 years, today producing around 300,000 bicycles a year.
"Each student from this international group found a creative solution to a problem related to cycling with their own background and culture," said Ellis Wiggers, Senior Product Designer at Gazelle. "This really inspired us and showed us how to improve in a modern way."
