High Tech Campus Eindhoven and DAE to collaborate through 3EALITY project

DAE’s Trans Realities Lab and 3EALITY will work together on the Hybrid Lab research project. Led by DAE to investigate the application of networked XR environments for distributed collaborative design. The project is supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

The Trans Realities Lab (TRL) is a hybrid digital environment for research and a space where students can engage with and explore new technologies. It was envisioned by Dr. Ian Biscoe, professor of Transdisciplinary Design Networks, and his research team. In the lab, students can traverse both physical and virtual spaces, examining how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR) can be used to support collaborative practices across geographies.

“In the Trans Realities Lab at DAE we are investigating future applications of the “metaverse” and spatial web technologies. We clearly have a shared vision of the potential for networked applications of XR in industry and design collaboration, so I am excited that we have put this into practice by engaging the High Tech Campus and the 3EALITY hub in our Hybrid Lab research program. I’m confident that the initiative will create new opportunities in design and technology, creative academia working with industry, to exploit the real potential of XR in our region.” Dr. Ian Biscoe Professor of Transdisciplinary Design Networks.

The Hybrid Lab Research Project

The Hybrid Lab Research Project will support participants in a series of design and build challenges. A networked XR makes long distance collaboration possible. By working in locally shared immersive environment — one where all members of the project can meet, like a private meta- or intraverse — they are able to collaborate on large projects. Essentially, it eliminates the need for travel but still allows for designers, builders, institutions to all collaborate in real time around the world. UAU project (Warsaw) and The New Raw (Rotterdam) are two design studios working with plastic waste and 3D printing, they will collaborate with the Hybrid Lab to design, build and test new urban furniture. The outcome of the project will then be manufactured and situated in physical space, all while fostering social interaction and identity within digital spaces.

3EALITY

3EALITY is an innovation hub that hosts multiple innovators working in spatial computing and immersive technologies, particularly digital twinning. As an innovation hub, its role is to support these innovators by showcasing their work, educating the market through events, and fostering connections between institutions, all while contributing to the growth of the Brainport Region of Eindhoven. In doing so, 3EALITY helps build a thriving ecosystem alongside over 300 other companies located in the Eindhoven High Tech Campus.

“We anticipate a shift in the required skillsets of employees in the future. To support that shift, one of the goals with the 3EALITY hub is to connect with academic institutions, that apply digital twinning and immersive technology solutions with students in their research projects. That is why we are very happy to join Dr. Ian Biscoe’s research project. Additionally, we aim to bridge the creative and tech worlds through this collaboration.” Philipp Werle, Innovation Manager Emerging Tech at 3EALITY.
