Design Academy Eindhoven and SintLucas announce the opening of ‘The Glassroom’

Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) and SintLucas (SL) are jointly organising the opening of ‘The Glassroom’ in the Heuvel shopping centre. The Glassroom marks the start of a long-term collaboration between the two institutions, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of designers.

Born from a shared vision, ‘The Glassroom’ is a dynamic, collaborative classroom in the heart of Eindhoven. Here, students can come together to organise workshops, take classes, collaborate on projects and showcase their work. The aim is to realise shared ambitions, foster collaboration and strengthen the innovative capacities of the region, both within and outside the creative sector. A thriving creative ecosystem depends on collaboration.

'In the Brainport region, thinkers and doers work together. Let’s use our brainpower, imagination and making power to help organisations and ecosystems move forward. Especially when the circumstances are challenging, collaboration and thinking differently are essential. That is exactly what we are going to do.’ - Executive Board, Design Academy Eindhoven and SintLucas

The design field is present at a high level in all facets in the innovative Brainport region. The design sector represents more than 7000 designers in the Eindhoven region and generates a gross added value of € 940 million*. We can make better use of this advantage, because we are facing economic, ecological and social challenges that cannot be solved easily.

In the coming period, second-year DAE students will show material studies and objects made from sheet materials in ‘The Glassroom’. The students of SL will show a selection of works by Ä6, a department known for its agile and enterprising attitude, which aligns with the vision of the DAE student. The students of both institutes will respond and reflect on each other’s work in the coming weeks. This is the start of an exciting collaboration that will continue until after Dutch Design Week.

Both DAE and SL train students to become change agents, each contributing to the growth and transformation of society in their own creative way. By bridging educational directions and disciplines, DAE and SL are experimenting with collaborations that will be needed in the future.
