Ex Nunc – Building Memory
Adriana Comparetto
“A tribute to all people who have sought a home here”
What: A cross-sectional project between art, education and social inclusion, introducing new,
inclusive monuments in public space.
Why: Monuments are designed to commemorate important events or persons. They showcase our national identity, but are never inclusive. Adriana Comparetto builds communal monuments with migrants who live on the edge of society, offering them the chance to gain citizenship status.
How: The collective creation of a mosaic in public space excludes nobody. ‘Ex Nunc’, meaning ‘from now on’, does not look back, but into the future. It invites newcomers to participate and at the same time revives the traditional craft of hydraulic tile-making. Pressing colourful tiles together is a good way to start a conversation and build new memories.
