Unveil

Adi Ticho

Unveil' uses the impermanent partitions that cover balconies in Jerusalem as a screen to digitally reflect discrimination against women inherent in the escalation of 'modesty' rules. The fabric disrupts the connection between the home and the street, serving as a flag of the growing ‘culture of exclusion’ and the spatial conflict between secular and Jewish Ultra-Orthodox societies. Using the Chromakey app, a camera phone can be transformed into a content projector, exhibiting poems by women from the community; a form of protest that respects belief systems while engaging with the dialogue around the nature of public space.
