Defending e-Evidence

Adam Morong

"The advent of mobile phone cameras and social media has catalysed a shift in documenting and prosecuting war crimes. Civilians are empowered to capture and share evidence globally with unprecedented speed and reach. However, digital platforms and their server farms delete the valuable metadata when this e-evidence is uploaded, often rendering it inadmissible in courts.
Adam Morong has developed a custom Telegram bot that uploads the e-evidence to an alternative server, where it is archived with all of its metadata. The metadata is also automatically saved to a spreadsheet, allowing for categorisation, creating connections, and displaying data based on different filters.
An installation of three server racks represents the original device on which the evidence is captured, the Telegram server, and the alternative archive server. The cables demonstrate the journey of the content when uploaded."
