Embellishment of Senses Through Meditation
We take our senses for granted. They help us appreciate and understand what surrounds us, but we remain oblivious of how exactly they work. Young Jin Joo uses meditation to raise our awareness of them and, in the process, discover our environment in a deeper way. She created a system that allows dyed water to pour over the skin of the arm and hand and then onto a sheet of linen, leaving blue stains once the water has dried. The result is an ‘experience pattern’ that captures an image that relates to our senses, in this case touch, which we rarely acknowledge due to our expeditious lifestyle. They become instruments that enhance the pleasure of movement and internalise our environment.
