Roam The Web: The Collective
Ymkje Kamphuis
‘Roam the Web: the Collective’ is a database intended to increase awareness among internet users of how their online activity informs their perceptions. Ymkje Kamphuis based it on the understanding that a native’s view of his country is likely to be different from a foreigner’s. This user-directed tool creates a dynamic representation of the range of different perceptions. Users decide the content, and the community peer-reviews and rates it. The rating system lets people indicate how important the information is to their idea of the country. Freed from the algorithm, the collective can regain control of how we see the world.
