Displaying Time Through Colour
Wout Wolf Stroucken
The ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos; the ‘exact’ time, and kairos; ‘human’ time, which passes by imperceptibly. Today, we have become
addicted to the former: every minute counts in the continuous flow of updates from the digital world. To counteract this, Wout Wolf Stroucken imagined a new, more fluid way of perceiving time. Like the rings of a tree, his clock depicts time in rings that grow from the centre and circle out. Each ring is a different colour, representing a different hour. By displaying only an hour at a time, you can focus on the present, accepting the now without being distracted by moments in the past or future.
