From Abena to Gloria
A mesh top represents a bathroom cleaning cloth, a geometric jumper is a light switch flicked playfully by two nieces, another jumper is a bathroom door opened every day by her mother. In the capsule clothing collection, ‘From Abena to Gloria’, situations and belongings from the family home are transformed into a selection of garments. As she translates habits and memories from the literal to the abstract, Wendy Owusu explores the definition of home and the value of family in a highly personal form of documentation. The collection’s title pays tribute to the Ghanaian and French identities of her mother, further interweaving the dual cultures she was raised with.
