Graduation project
Semi-made
Vincent Decat
A series of sculptural objects highlights the beauty of mass-produced industrial components.
"Beauty can be found in unexpected places, even in mass-produced industrial components. With a clear reference to Marcel Duchamp, 'Semi-made' honours the aesthetic qualities of industrial mechanical components. Taken out of their original contexts, our perception of these objects may change, and their introduction into different settings opens up a playing field of abstraction.
'Semi-made' proposes a series of objects which incorporate manufactured components such as bicycle clamps, pneumatic fittings, tap connectors or brake discs, by introducing them into new contexts. The collection seeks to reveal the often overlooked visual qualities of these quite beautiful industrial components. The project integrates a sculptural and industrial approach, and fuses art and industry."
