Paradoxical Screen
Valentine Maurice
Insomnia afflicts some 20% of generation Z, who have lived and grown up with the smartphone. Traditional treatment prescribes avoiding screens to reduce the impact of blue light, which suppresses drowsiness. This is not always possible in a world increasingly reliant on screens. Instead, Valentine Maurice draws on emerging psychological research into the screen’s role in establishing our sense of time, embodiment and social connection. Paradoxical Screen uses the psychology of the screen in combination with biofeedback, neuroaesthetics and cognitive recognition to calm the mind into surrendering to the body’s need for a good night’s sleep.
