Agricultural Revolution: The Val Ross Collective

Valentin Patis

Over the past 60 years, the winemakers in the French region of Champagne have adopted large-scale production techniques, shifting former community approaches into commercially motivated choices leading to numerous environmental issues. Within this landscape — depleted by monoculture, weed killers and insecticides — Valentin Patis instigates the Val Ross Collective to encourage new types of cultivation that protect the land and biodiversity. Regenerating the region’s social network among the winegrowers facilitates knowledge exchange that can induce these changes in cultivation. The collective rethinks this system using the existing infrastructure of a winegrower’s association, discussing, mapping and materially recording an agricultural revolution in which the landscape is apprehended as a whole.

**During the DDW, a space of exchange will be proposed everyday at 3:00pm, to talk about the topic, and taste a glass of Champagne.**

**Limited to 10 people (18+)**
