Symbiosis of Things

Symbiosis of Things is the development of a hybrid material of woven textile and metal fibres. Referring to interspecies symbiosis as a catalyst of evolution, the project combines the flexibility of textile with the structural properties of steel and copper. In collaboration with the TextielLab, the professional workshop of the TextielMuseum, the designer followed a scientific curiosity and a fascination for fiction that led him to reappropriate a jacquard machine to develop a technique for working with a combination of metal fibres and yarn. The result is a collection of three structural objects and a tapestry that demonstrate the different possibilities of this new material, which is both textile and metal.
