Dent by Dent
Tycho Willemse
A stool demonstrates the undervalued possibilities of metal shaping and material economy.
In furniture design metal is an undervalued material, says Tycho Willemse. “I just love metal,” he adds. “It can take any shape or form that you want. I see it as a rigid plastic that will stand the test of time and can easily be recycled when it reaches the end of its life span.” The project ‘Dent by Dent’ is about exploring the limits of shaping metal. By pushing these limits, Tycho changes the structure of the metal, resulting in a more rigid material that allows for further exploration of shapes while reducing the amount of metal needed. The project shows what we can do with metal, and that in furniture it doesn’t need to be limited to tubes and plates.
