Time and the character of things
Many industrially made products lack human touch and character. Tom Schoonhoven is fascinated by handmade and aged objects that bear signs of wear and tear that reveal their history. To produce items worthy of our love, he created an array of tools to guide the process of making. These implements are crucial for survival and enable us to lead self-sufficient lives. Each tool has a character of its own, made to last and to be passed on to succeeding generations. They leave traces on every object they help to shape. The project also includes a growing collection of items that foster a deep personal bond between object and user, thereby ensuring them a long life in the care of successive owners.
