Drawing on Young Inspiration

Give a child some paper and watch new colour combinations, shapes or interpretations of the world appear on every sheet. Fascinated by the innovative and playful creativity of children’s drawings, Simone Post uses this as a springboard to exciting designs. She asked kids aged between four and thirteen to draw a range of common interior objects and selected two of these to develop into product ideas. Seven-year-old Tjeerd’s creation gave rise to a translucent layered lamp, while Lex’s abstract lines sparked a simple yet surprising textile pattern. With some 600 drawings left, Simone still has plenty to fuel further inspiration.
