Personas Born From Virus

Contemporary society and self-experience tends to sustain the illusion of people having one stable, consistent persona. A film based on Seunghwan Ji’s video diaries recorded across the spatial and temporal dislocation caused by the COVID19 lockdown sets up an inner dialogue between four of the designer’s personas. Not everyone can detect the subtle persona shifts in other people. For this reason, the designer has also demonstrated his different personas through seven remodellings of the Jasper Morrison Plywood Chair, selected specifically for its perceived neutrality. These chair self-portraits point to the objectifying nature of perceiving people as singular personas.
