Textile offcuts, the inevitable by-product of garment production, are mostly thrown away. Struck by the huge amount of waste in the fashion industry, Seok Park searched for a way to reuse them – not as mere fashion accessories but for a functional upgrade of existing clothes. He took a classic French chore jacket and reconsidered the 17.4 per cent of fabric scraps left on the table after the pattern cutting. Transforming these into add-ons that repair the shortcomings of this archetypical workwear piece upgrades both the leftovers and the original design. It makes the jacket more resistant to harsh conditions, providing a hood against the rain, a comfortable collar and lining against the cold, durable elbow patches and extra pockets.
