Haar Haar
Savine Schoorl
We spend so much time and money taking care of our hair through washing, brushing, styling or adding hair extensions. Yet when we visit a hairdresser, we leave it useless on the floor. Focusing on this transition from appreciating our hair to deeming it as waste, Savine Schoorl aims to give the material we treasured when it was on our head a new life. Though careful separating, selecting, carding, spinning and weaving, the hair becomes a strong and flexible textile. Cast-off hair extensions are woven into a cowl, and a hat is crochet from discarded hair. ‘Haar Haar’ reveals hair as a valuable resource and shows us the qualities of our wasted hair in its second life.
