Spirit Lamps
Samuel Szraga
A series of lamps brings to life imaginary shiny creatures that hide in the air ducts of buildings.
Peculiar beings called ‘lumen’ are hidden within the structure of our buildings. Nobody knows if they are from our world or the next. These shy creatures were discovered in the air ducts of buildings where they seek refuge from the outside world. But when buildings are destroyed or renovated, they find themselves forced out of their homes. To adapt to the outside world, they have fashioned protective shells from the remnants of the air vents. Perforated, textured and coated with graffiti spray, these hoods allow them to venture outdoors. They roam the streets at night, three-legged and bold, in search of forgotten corners where they can reveal their luminous personalities with a spectacle of light.
