An Uncertain School
Design education faces a crisis of confidence as it slowly becomes aware of its role in perpetuating a host of social issues, including the concealment of class interest, Euro-centric cultural hegemony and narrowing forms of knowledge production and dissemination. However, current research into the pedagogy of design focuses heavily on understanding ‘how’ students learn, instead of ‘what’ they are learning and why. Operating as a series of student-organised happenings, collected learnings and an offline digital archive, the 'Uncertain School' operates as a parasitic school-within-a-school, seeking to make visible the ‘hidden curriculum’ of design education, while generating a set of open-format curricula for others to cannibalise and maintain.
