I grew up with a mirror screaming at me, adapting to my body and the changing seasons. I grew up not so far from the sea

Salomé Louise Sperling

Salomé Louise Sperling decided to reflect inwardly at the different artefacts and spaces that shaped her identity at key moments of childhood by creating a self-portrait through a family of three objects. Spending her youth with access to the mountains, a couch represents an urge to climb everything – both outdoors, and in the home amidst the landscapes of her own imagination. A mirror, with its constant reflection, allows for a creeping sense of insecurity. Finally, a suit stands in for the experience of growing up as a woman, and how society looks upon this. By distorting the form of each artefact into a new sculptural representation, the designer hopes to bring new perspectives on how the domestic environment shapes our behaviour.
