Showroom of Unchecked Productivity

Rachel Yin

## “Productivity is chased like enlightenment, but these objects follow a different code of conduct.”

At 6pm, a wall clock hides away, a coat stand drops its jackets and a desk chair sinks to the ground. 'The Showroom of Unchecked Productivity' showcases office equipment that resist the culture of overwork by limiting unregulated productivity. This struggle caught Rachel Yin’s attention when she witnessed the contrast between work cultures that expect constant labour, and others where personal time is protected. Through daily micro protests, these objects normalise leaving the office space to rest, and act as mouthpieces for those who cannot speak up due to a cultural rejection of such conversations. On the virtual showroom's website, showroomofuncheckedproductivity.com, anonymous complaints of overwork are geotagged around the globe, and visitors can submit their own through the checkout process.
