Queering the Botanical Theatre

Quentin Delvaux

"The currently intersecting climate, economic, and social crises disproportionately affect marginalised queer (non-)human communities. Queering the Botanical Theatre is an installation and performance that uses the metaphor of a garden to explore the complex relationships between human existence, ecology and societal constructs, drawing parallels between queerness and other marginalised entities in Western society. The project advocates for diverse bodily understandings within theatre and design, and promotes care for queer bodies and nature, against the systemic violence rooted in cis-heteronormative, patriarchal, and capitalist societies.

A video and a collection of props installation are the result of Quentin Delvaux’s collaboration with different practitioners, including a nail artist and textile designer. Each prop represents a dialogue between the designer and collaborator on the interrelationship of subjects like queer theory and the environment. Each accessory exhibited has its own ecology of (non-)human collaborators behind it. "
