Divisacannabis Borealis
"Exploring Sweden's complex substance culture and policies, Phoebe Hed challenges the myth of a 'Drug-Free Society'. Through a historical lens, she reveals normalized substance use—such as alcohol and nicotine—alongside hidden cannabis consumption in Swedish homes. Despite this reality, public discourse remains stifled by stigma.
To provoke dialogue, Phoebe created 'Divisacannabis Borealis', a fictional plant blending cannabis culture with Swedish folklore and traditional household objects. This imagined botanical becomes a symbol in domestic settings, subtly appearing in cultural artefacts and décor. By reframing cannabis as a natural and cultural phenomenon rather than a societal threat, Phoebe hopes to foster a nuanced conversation about taboo subjects. It weaves together fictional and factual histories, inviting viewers to reconsider preconceptions through the lens of Swedish substance policy, archaeology and folklore."
