Borders of Assembly
Paul Coenen
“I use industry standards to create a new design method”
What: A furniture collection inspired by the flexibility of sheet metal and the standard sizes used in the manufacturing industry.
Why: Industrial machinery is equipped to process set sizes of materials. In ‘Borders of Assembly’ Paul Coenen looks for new possibilities within these limitations. A new design approach arises from this creative challenge.
How: Sheets of metal are laser-cut. Then the metal is bent and inserted into slots to maintain the shape. No glue, screws or welding is needed. The furniture relies entirely on the flexibility and tension of the metal, set between interlocking sheets.
