FARROWING CRATE

Pablo Bustamante Hermida

"Technological development has allowed pigs to be consumed not only for their meat but also for their living cells, tissues, and organs. This development in livestock consumption intertwines with implementing digital technologies applied to animal exploitation, which introduces data into the farming context.

FARROWING CRATE uses an old pig crate that has been refurbished and adapted to accommodate human bodies for a VR experience. It features animations that depict the complexities of contemporary animal exploitation and expose concepts such as ‘the digital pig’ or ‘digital farming’. Interaction with the VR headset subordinates the human body, subverting animal-human power structures."
