Economic Gardening

Oscar Rainbird-Chill

"Could a fountain’s intensity of flow match the rate of trade in electricity?"

OSCAR RAINBIRD-CHILL Department: Man and Leisure Website: oscarrainbirdchill.com ECONOMIC GARDENING WHAT An urban green space in which every element communicates information about intangible, macroscopic fluctuations in the financial world. WHY Oscar Rainbird- Chill found links between the economic and natural worlds, in terms of cyclic change, differences in scale, and growth and decay. Because of increasing mistrust towards the financial world, due to our not understanding or choosing not to engage with it, he harnessed nature to help clarify — in sensory ways — the system. HOW Oscar divided the garden into trees, flowerbeds and furniture that symbolise the changing fortunes of institutions. People find themselves surrounded physically by that which defines their lives invisibly, causing them to reflect on their relation to macroscopic events from an unexpected angle.
