Office of Cultural Production

Nicole Stoddard

Eindhoven has a rich diversity of cultural institutions. But, there appears to be a disconnect between the cultural landscape and the general population. With the ‘Office of Cultural Production’, Nicole Stoddard aims to enter into a dialogue with the local public to also serve their interests. It would act as a grassroots platform to add value for those currently not engaged in the city’s cultural life. In doing so, the office would give a voice to a new potential audience as yet unheard and currently underrepresented. By liaising with existing institutions, the office could help ensure that future cultural production in Eindhoven has a broader reach.

As an example of a possible introduction to this office, Stoddard has created a tailored installation. Here, she incorporates data about Eindhoven’s seven main cultural institutions, such as visitor numbers and Instagram followers, and weaves these into a visual form. The concept uses Eindhoven as an example, but could easily be applied to other cities.
