Destabilizing Echoes

Neal Jordan

Destabilizing Echoes explores using glitches and mistakes as a way to unsettle the heteronormative script that continues to be reproduced and repeated in the present, obstructing alternative futures. Breaking away from this normative narrative can be perceived as jeopardizing social standards. Yet, because it appears as an unintentional mistake, a glitch can become a constructive and constitutive act of stepping away. This is demonstrated through an experiential installation using a recurring feedback loop to create a mise-en-abyme: the space in a space, the story in a story, the imagined in the imagined, the self in the self, the norm in the norm.
