Graduation project

Direct/Indirect

Nanyoung Yoon

# “I want to be the reflected image. I want to show the reflected me, to reveal the real me without feeling anxious.”

This project started from the sense of anxiety that Nanyoung Yoon has known all her life. When she feels anxious, she repeats the same action over and over. But the feeling itself is not her subject. She simply wants to make it part of the design process. Looking at all she has done made her realise that much of her work is about ‘Direct/Indirect’. This revolving container (or shelf or room divider) is an open shelter that can hide Nanyoung in the graduation show. The polished aluminium shelf reflects aspects of the venue, and spaces are projected onto its surface. The optical illusion is an escape pathway to the reflected space where Nanyoung finally can be herself.
