I Am a Screen

Nanno Simonis

## “What is shown on my skin no longer acts as my identity, no longer speaks as if it were who I am. I am me now.”

“I serve you. I serve the image, the data. I am that which channels, not which is.” What is a screen but the picture upon it? In conversation with this ubiquitous tool, Nanno Simonis explores new identities for it. Using light, the language of the screen, he transforms it from being a portal, to having a material presence of its own. Mysterious light beams pierce milky depths, while magnified liquid crystals draw you close to appreciate the medium behind the message. Liberating the screen from its previous anonymity, this project presents new ways of seeing the object through which we increasingly experience the world.
