Graduation project
Split
Nane-Sophie Bergmann
"Instead of permanently appropriating the wood, I only borrow it."
WHAT
A set of garden furniture, made from manually split wood, which was designed in collaboration with a locally sourced 60-year-old Robinia tree trunk.
WHY
The industrial processing of wood leaves it vulnerable to decay and accounts for the necessity of toxic preservatives. Split wood is naturally better able to resist weather damage and makes the most of the valuable qualities inherent in the material.
HOW
Storing the objects in an angled position allows water to run off quickly. Surfaces that are in contact with the soil are scorched to give extra protection.
